Agencies and Consortia

The Consortia are groups or associations of travel agencies such as Carlson Wagonlit, Worldtravel / BTI, American Express etc.. The Consortia are varied according to prevailing customer (business or leisure), size (hundreds or thousands of agencies) and on the basis of geographical distribution.

Once present on the GDS, you can select one or more Consortia and adhere to their hotel program which will allow participating agencies to offer a negotiated and confidential rate. When one of these agencies will use the GDS to a reservation, the system displays as the first the negotiated rates reserved for agencies of the consortium. To participate in a program Consortia, the hotel must comply with certain minimum requirements as well as pay a participation fee. Typically the minimum requirements include:
  • Lower rate of at least 10% lower than the rates available (Rack or corporate)
  • Rate parity
  • Guaranteed last room available on GDS
  • 10% agency commission
  • Negotiated rates guaranteed year-round

Benefits from participation in one or more Consortia:
  • Greater visibility: The hotel is in fact inserted in the program directory and will be visible on the GDS from all the agencies that operate on negotiated rates under the program.
  • Increased turnover: Consortia participation in the program allows you to establish and build lasting relationships with multiple agencies.
  • Marketing opportunities: Each program allows you to participate in a series of specific business initiatives, such as advertising agencies on newsletters, or participate in meetings of the consortium.
